    Division for Teaching English as a Second Language (non-English major undergraduates)

      This Division is dedicated to the teaching of English as a second language to non-major undergraduates. It aims to improve their basic skills in English listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
      Faculty and Staff
      The Division for Teaching English as a Second Language (non-English major undergraduate) is a well-organized team of teachers, adhering to the “cooperation, first to excellence” philosophy and constantly pursuing innovation and progress both in teaching and research. The Division has a staff of 44 teachers, including 1 professor, 10 associate professors and 33 lecturers. It offers credit courses to nearly 6,000 undergraduate students and the teacher-student ratio is 1:130.
      Teaching and Research Achievements
      Teachers in the Division have been involved in dozens of teaching reform projects of all kinds and at all levels, publishing nearly 200 academic papers and compiling more than 60 teaching materials and complementary books.
      Awards Received
      2 teachers won the first prizes in “Beijing Competition of Basic Teaching Skills among Young University Teachers”
      1 teacher won the title of “Pacesetter of Educational Innovation” from Beijing Municipal Government
      6 won “Outstanding Teacher Award” from Beihang University
      6 teachers won the first prizes and the second prizes in Beihang Young Teachers Teaching Competition
      5 groups and/or individuals won the second prizes of Beihang Chengfei Award
      5 teachers won the second prizes of Beihang Xifei Award
      Besides, dozens of teachers have won the first prizes, the second prizes and the third prizes of Beihang University Excellent Teaching Achievement Award
      Students’ Development
      There are more than 1,000 students winning prizes in various competitions. Since 2007, 20 students have won special grade awards, 37 have won the first prizes, 158 have won the second prizes, and 315 have won the third prizes in the National English Contest for College Students (Beijing). Students in Beihang University have also won the first prizes and the second prizes in the “CCTV Cup” National English Speech Contest and 21st Century Cup English Speaking Contest.
